1 cup gram flour

Pinch of baking soda

Salt to taste

Pinch of turmeric

1/4th tsp Cumin powder

1 tsp oil

Oil for frying


1. Make batter with gram flour, baking soda, oil, cumin powder, salt and turmeric, which should not be too thin. The batter should evenly coat the back of a spoon when dipped in it.
2. Heat oil, hold perforated spoon a little above the hot oil, pour some batter on the spoon. Tap very lightly at edge of spoon to allow small droplets to fall in the oil.
3. Pour back remaining batter and wipe spoon.
4. Stir the boondis in the oil gently and fry till crisp but not brown. Drain and put aside.
