This is my husband’s favourite snack. It’s yummy and crunchy-so what’s not to love. When I was in hostel doing my bachelor in PT, my mom always used to send these along with some other goodies once a month with my dad. These remind me of days where me and my friends used to snack on these while talking for hours. I will not get those days back, but thanks to cell phones we can still chat for hours. We call them “palliittula gaarelu”.I know it’s time consuming but it’s definitely worth it to see your family enjoy it. So go ahead and try it, let me know what you think.
Ingredients:
4 and 1/2 cups rice flour
1 cup raw peanuts
2 tbsp sesame seeds
Salt to taste
1 and 1/2 tbsp chilli powder
Pinch of turmeric
1 small cube of onion
10 curry leaves crushed
2 cloves of garlic
2 cloves
1 tsp jeera
2 tbsp of hot oil
Oil for deep frying
Method:
- Roast the peanuts and remove the skin and keep aside.
- Grind cube of onion, garlic, clove and jeera to a paste.
- Mix every thing including the paste in rice flour except peanuts.
- Soak peanuts in water for 5 mts and mix with other ingredients.
- Donot mix everything in water at once. Mix in small batches like poori dough (neither hard nor soft).
- Make small balls and press in poori press or chapathi press as thinly as possible and fry in the hot oil immediately.
- Let it brown up on both sides. Do not let it burn otherwise peanuts will taste bitter.
- Enjoy these delicacies with hot cup of coffee or cold soda.
Notes:
- Add 2 tbsp of oil, it makes them crisp.
- Make it as thinly as possible. They will be crispy and kids will love it.
